Technical Activities

Mr. Walz is a Senior Consultant of Shreya Business Solutions after retiring from Lucent Technologies as a Senior Manager, Quality Strategy. He has over 30 years of Information Technology work experience, including software development, managing software and hardware development. He has extensive experience in implementing process improvement techniques, including Baldrige National Award, ISO 9001, TL 9000, and SEI Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI^®).

Mr. Walz serves on for the IEEE-CS Software and Systems Engineering Standard Committee (S2ESC) as Planning Chair, Quality Management Planning Group Chair and Software Quality Assurance standards working group Vice-Chair. Based on his software and systems engineering implementation experience using standards, he has co-authored with S. Kathy Land three books:

Secretary of the Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications (QuEST) Forum Great Lakes TL 9000 Special Interest Group.
Previously John was the QuEST Forum Metrics Work Group Secretary and before that the Metrics Implementation Co-Chair, helping to deploy the new TL 9000 worldwide telecommunications quality system requirements and metrics and acquired international lecturer experience in Paris, London, Berlin, Montreal, New Dehli, and Buenos Aires. This experience resulted in John published chapter "TL 9000 Quality Management Standard for Telecommunications", The ISO 9000 Handbook, 4th Edition, from McGraw-Hill.
